Once I read Prairie Wings by Edgar Queeny, I was determined to write the history of duck hunting for the states of Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi and the Boothill of Missouri, thus my first duck-hunting book, The Golden Age of Waterfowling. After its success, I couldn’t stop writing, so other books followed.
I have written ten other books: Red Letter Days, The Golden Age of Hunting, Waterfowling America Vol. I, Vol. II and Vol. III, The Mississippi Flyway, Arkansas Duck Hunting, Waterfowling Vignettes, The History of the Millsaps (genealogy) and No More Tears (historic romance novel on Trail of Tears). I am also a freelance outdoor writer for different outdoor magazines.
I attended Colonial Jr. High and Overton High School. Playing sports, I made All-Memphis in football, basketball, and baseball and was voted “Outstanding Athlete of the Year” in 1962. Afterwards, I attended the University of Alabama on a football scholarship, playing under the legendary Paul “Bear” Bryant. After graduating from the University of Tennessee Medical School in 1970, I entered the U.S. Air Force as a Flight Surgeon. I was an emergency physician for 32 years, becoming board certified in 1981, the first-ever board certification process for emergency medicine. I was recertified in 1992. In 2002, I became Medical Director at the University of Memphis Student Health Services. I have been on two missionary trips: Dominican Republic and Honduras. I am married to the lovely Roseanna Pimentel, clinical psychologist. We have two sons, Bryan, 40, and Chad, 36.
