As each year passes us by, the history of our waterfowling heritage in the Mid-South, like old photographs, slowly fades away until the details become harder to ascertain. Unless preserved, our history will eventually fade away altogether.

My purpose in writing The Golden Age of Hunting, and its companion book, The Golden Age of Waterfowling, is to rescue from the oblivion into which it is rapidly sinking, the history of hunting in the Mid-South, to collate and preserve the memories and incidents of the earlier and late lives of the hardy and revered hunters who came hither to woo from the wildness of the unbroken wilderness our present hunting heritage.

Before life passed me by, I wanted to take a few moments from my busy family and emergency room life and write a few of the interesting stories that has happened to me during 40-plus years of hunting, mostly waterfowl.

Journey back in Vol. Three to witness waterfowling as duck hunting was practiced in the upper Mississippi Flyway, the Central Flyway and the Pacific Flyway. All chapter pages are in color, 8.5×11
